Your Denver Boudoir Shoot: The Day Before

Yaaaaas!  If you are reading this page, it means you are a few days away from your boudoir experience!  I am so excited to see you in the home studio shortly and want to give you a few last-minute tips to help you come as prepared as possible for your shoot.

Please bookmark this link so that you can reference it before your shoot.  Please make sure you read everything through to the very bottom.

Best Denver boudoir photos

Studio address: 3127 W 28th Ave #4, Denver, 80211

Click on the link above to go directly to my address in Google Maps.  My building is on the corner lot of 28th Avenue and Hazel Court, just one block west of Federal Blvd.  I recommend clicking the link above as opposed to typing my address out so that you don’t end up at the wrong house!

My building is a two-story condo building.  It is not a single family home or a duplex.  It’s the only multi-unit building at the corner of 28th and Hazel.  My house is on 28th Avenue, facing south — it is not on Hazel.  If you find yourself facing west, you are on the wrong side of my building.  The building is two-toned: beige and olive green.  This is the Google Maps street view for reference:

When you arrive, please wait until your scheduled arrival time to come upstairs.  As you go up the small brick staircase you see in the photo above, take a few steps to the right.  The first brown door on your left is the entrance for the stairwell that leads upstairs to my home.   The doorway you’ll want to go through has the numbers “3” and “4” right above it.  This door is always open so there is no need to ring the doorbell.  I am on the second floor in unit 4.  Come on up the stairs to the very top and I’ll be waiting there to greet you!

Please make sure to build in some extra time for your commute to my house in case there is an accident, construction, traffic, or something similar that could delay your arrival.  There is a wonderful coffee shop next door to my house called Nurture that you can roll through in case you are early!

There will be plenty of street parking in front of my old ass building.  If you are shooting with me between April and November, please be aware of street sweeping days and signage, as the city is active in ticketing folks who are parked in street sweeping zones on certain days.

Phone: 303-915-1226 (text is the best way to get in touch the morning of your shoot)

Please remember that your shoot is closed to just you.  If you have a friend or family member who would like to join you, they are more than welcome to wait down the street at a coffee shop while we’re working.  2914 Coffee is a great spot, as is Nest Café at Nurture.

The first thing I’ll ask you to do upon arrival is to take off your shoes.  I recommend wearing something easy to slip on and off.  If you need a pair of comfy socks to wear while doing hair and makeup, I’ll be happy to loan you a pair!

My final pre-shoot tips for you:

Health + Wellness

  • If you are feeling sick or under the weather in any capacity (yes, even if it’s “just” a cold), please reschedule your shoot.  I’m fully vaccinated against good ol’ covid-19, but I’d prefer to shoot with you when you’re at 100% so everyone can stay healthy.  I’ll do my very best to get you in before any applicable deadlines you may have.
  • Get a good night’s sleep the evening before your shoot.  You want to be your freshest self when you arrive at the home studio in the morning.
  • Eat a healthy dinner the night before and a light breakfast the morning of.  Avoid anything that is super salty or carb-heavy to avoid the dreaded bloat.  Instead, for dinner, opt for lean protein and fiber to keep you full.  For your breakfast, keep it simple with something like egg whites, green tea, and a handful of berries.
  • Hit a yoga class the day before.  We are going to be doing a lot of stretching during your session so get those muscles prepped!  I have a lot of clients tell me how sore they are the next day after doing their shoot, so yoga is always a fantastic option to limber up before going in front of the camera.  I’d avoid a very heavy strength training session the day before your shoot, as that can leave you feeling sore which may hinder how well you can get into the poses we will be doing.  I’d prefer you feel loose and limber when you walk into the home studio.

Skin + Nails

  • Gently exfoliate a few days beforehand.  A natural sugar scrub for your lips, face, and body can work wonders in this dry ass climate!
  • Moisturize your entire body.  Simple lotion (without glitter or shimmer) will help give you that ethereal dewy look in your photos.
  • A reminder that spray tans should be done a few days before your shoot.  Please make sure that your spray tan does not transfer to other surfaces before coming to the home studio.  You should ideally schedule your spray tan appointment at least two days before your shoot.
  • Don’t forget about fingers + toes!  A fresh manicure and pedicure will help bring your look together in the final photos.  I recommend lighter colors like a soft peach or classic white, and there’s never anything wrong with a sexy maroon or eggplant.  And yes, even hot pink will work!  Your goal with nails is to either subtly draw attention to your hands (with lighter, more conservative colors) or dramatically (with darker, more eye-catching colors).  Your choice!
  • Wear clear deodorant or skip it entirely.  I don’t care if you’re a little stinky!  😉

Outfits

  • Cut all tags from your lingerie.
    • This also includes the garment sizing and wash instruction tags that are sewn into the fabric.
    • If you are shooting with me for a mini session, please bring one outfit if you’ve booked 20 minutes of time with me.  Please bring two outfits if you’ve booked 40 minutes of time with me.
    • If you’re in the studio with me for full session, bring at least three outfits that you love and maybe one or two extras.  We can also do classy topless photos or full-on birthday suit as one of your outfits.  The choice is yours!
  • Be conscientious of your outfit on your way to the studio.
    • Skip the uncomfortable underwire bra, panties with a lot of elastic, sweats with an elastic waistband, and socks with shoes that leave imprints on your feet.  Think about wearing a loose maxi dress or baggy, oversized shirt.
    • Do not wear anything with elastic or anything that will leave a line on your skin.
    • Please do not wear tight bras, tight undies, jeans, any kind of leggings, anything with ribbed fabric (the fabric should be smooth, without texture) or anything form-fitting with elastic.  This includes sweats that have an elastic waist.
    • You are more than welcome to change into a robe or loose-fitting maxi dress when you get here as well.  I can loan you a satin robe if you’d like, just let me know!
    • The reason why I am annoying about this is that this can extend the time it takes to get your photos ready, as I have to Photoshop out indentation lines left by things like tight bras, elastic, etc.  It will help me get your photos ready a lot quicker if you follow these guidelines!

Arriving at the Home Studio

  • Please wait until your scheduled start time to come up to the studio.  We’ll be prepping everything for you up until you come in, so it’s most helpful if you come upstairs on time as opposed to early.
  • If you are having your hair and makeup done at the studio, arrive with clean, dry hair and a clean face.  No need to bring foundation or lashes — my glam team will have it all for you!  If you are doing your own hair and makeup styling for the shoot, please arrive with everything ready to go.  You’ll have time to do any last-minute, small touch-ups at the studio but the full application (lashes, lips, eyes, etc.) should be done prior to arrival.  Click here for my personal tips for DIY boudoir makeup!
  • If you feel so inclined, you are more than welcome to bring cash for a tip for your hair + makeup artist, but this is optional.  You can also tip via Venmo.  I don’t handle tips for my hair and makeup team so you’ll need to get with them while they’re working!  On a similar note, as a reminder, hair and makeup costs will be due to the stylist on the day of the shoot via Venmo or cash.

I’m so thrilled you’re doing something incredibly empowering like boudoir for yourself and can’t wait to guide you through an unforgettable session.  If you still have questions or concerns, please feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll get back to you ASAP!
