I am so excited to announce that I’ve opened up a new Denver boudoir studio in my home!
At first, when I bought this condo in November of 2016, I automatically assumed I would always have a roommate to help keep the cash flow going with bills, HOA payments, and the mortgage. And I did, almost entirely for the year of 2017. A fellow photographer friend of mine snatched up my spare bedroom and it was awesome to live with someone for the first year of paying for this home.
(Because, as I’m sure many of you know, that first-time home buy comes with a certain brand of anxiety. It’s the will I be able to pay for this place?! feeling and it can be a little overwhelming at times.)
In the winter of 2017, my roommate decided she was going to move in with her beau and out of my place. Initially, I was bummed, as it had become comforting to have someone to come home to, to chat about work with, to watch Stranger Things for hours on end with.
After she moved out, I let the room sit empty for a minute. It was the winter holiday season, and I figured the last thing anyone wanted to do was move into a new place around Christmas (it was definitely the last thing I wanted to have on my plate).
So I let the room hang out, unoccupied, waiting for inspiration for its use.
One January day, I was home sick working on the couch in the living room, where I can see into the spare bedroom. I was posted up from morning to night working on the laptop, with Netflix on in the background.
Every now and then, I would peek over into the empty room, noticing the light shift and bounce around throughout the day. The room has a south-facing window, so I was able to watch the shadows from the window panes slide from one side to the other as we crept towards sunset.
And then it finally dawned on me.
This room is meant to be my studio.
From that point on, I couldn’t see it any other way, and began preparations to redo the room as a studio.
First up was paint: I opted for grey + black from the same paint palette. After that, I snagged a gorgeous cream leather futon off of Amazon and added in lacy curtains, floofy rugs, a couple of chairs, and fake plants (because this bitch cannot keep a real plant alive to save my life).
Last thing I needed was beautiful clients! Enter Omo. We had done a couple of shoots together in the past so I was super excited to have her come back to a session, this time at the home studio. I loved all of her outfits just like I did from the last shoot: classic, sexy, textured.
Thank you so much to Omo for being the first babe I photographed in my new space! I can’t wait to shoot in here more. Please enjoy my favorites from our session below.
